In 2006, Heidi Jannenga, a leading sports physical therapist and multi-site clinic director, was looking for ways to improve her practice’s bottom line. After identifying dictation and paper documentation management as two of her business’s biggest costs, she started looking for a less expensive solution to documentation that also fit her workflow as a PT. The more she shopped around, though, the more discouraged she became. That was when she enlisted the help of Brad Jannenga, a seasoned technologist, to develop her business’s ideal software solution.

After months of studying Heidi’s clinical and documentation workflows, coding, and testing, ayusmart—a web-based EMR for PTs, OTs, and SLPs—officially launched in 2008.
